The Management Myth

No votes yet

Most of management theory is inane, writes our correspondent, the founder of a consulting firm. If you want to succeed in business, don’t get an M.B.A. Study philosophy instead

by Matthew Stewart

"On the whole, however, management education has been less than a boon for those who value free and meaningful speech. M.B.A.s have taken obfuscatory jargon—otherwise known as bullshit—to a level that would have made even the Scholastics blanch"

The Most Fascinating Article about Madoff

http://money.cnn.com/2009/04/24/news/newsmakers/madoff.fortune/index.htm...

It's VERY long. One of the longest real news pieces I have seen in a while, but it is fascinating. I had never heard of the guy until this giant scam came to light but this article gives some glimpse into the scam and the players involved. It's sickly fascinating. I couldn't help but to read it all, and I hope some others enjoy the read too (not the content, but the insight into the psyche of the world's greatest scammer).

I HATE Domain Squatters

So I am reading reddit as I often do and this gem of a thread shows up.

http://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/8etxh/wtf_domain_squatters_i...

It is a gripe by a guy who tried to buy thislittlepiggy.com from World Wide Media (Mike Berkens) and was offended by the minimum offer.

Of course these sorts of complaints are quite common and show up a lot but this had one really nice response:

Someone, somewhere, somehow, needs to come down very hard on domain squatters.

How to Get Rich

"The way to get rich is to put your eggs in one basket, but watch that basket very carefully. And make sure you have the right basket."- Jim Rogers

I think it's an interesting point. The whole notion of diversifying is to hedge yourself, balance a portfolio and see modest, constant returns. However, if the goal is getting rich he's absolutely correct that this isn't the right method. However, it does carry a lot higher risk.
