Fabulous Releases API Access

No votes yet

Fabulous, my registrar of choice, released an API today. Docs can be seen here. I think it's a great step forward for them and something I wish they had ages ago. It does appear they intentionally limited some of the API commands to keep it for users only (not resellers). I wonder if they will open it up more in the future?

Regardless, great work Fabulous!

The Retirement of a ccTLD (.YU - Yugoslavia)

"Websites using the .yu domain extension will cease to be available online from 30 September."

Interesting to see how this goes. This is the first end of a TLD that I am familiar with. I wonder if it will be a common process if the new gTLDs get launched? Only 4000 sites on the platform so this is a nice small scale test, but I worry about larger ones and political implications as well as technical ones.

A TV Show with an Episode about Domain Theft?

No votes yet

So I am sitting with my family and the kids are watching Nickelodeon while I am on my laptop. But then they started talking about URL Transfer Documents. I can't help but watch. They had a whole show about a credit card failing to renew a domain and some kids' quest to get the name back. It's the only time I haven't heard the word domain or cybersquatter detailing the process. Was quite amusing. The show was called 'iCarly.com' or some such. Who would have thought that could be the content of a TV episode?

Candy.com on CJ

Just noticed candy.com is now on CJ.com. Very quick to develop, quite impressive.

Enom WTF? Are you playing games with my expired names?

I HATE Domain Squatters

So I am reading reddit as I often do and this gem of a thread shows up.

http://www.reddit.com/r/technology/comments/8etxh/wtf_domain_squatters_i...

It is a gripe by a guy who tried to buy thislittlepiggy.com from World Wide Media (Mike Berkens) and was offended by the minimum offer.

Of course these sorts of complaints are quite common and show up a lot but this had one really nice response:

Someone, somewhere, somehow, needs to come down very hard on domain squatters.

Yea... Montenegro is going to overtake .com, no doubt about it.

Do you think we're idiots or are you just a scumbag?

I browse a lot of forums, sales ads, newsletters every day and time and time again I notice two things: first, people say appraisals are worthless, shouldn't be trusted, can't accurately value domain names, etc. Second, those same people put something like an estibot valuation next to their domain names in a sales pitch. Ok. What gives?
