So I like twitter. It's no secret I think it's a neat platform for me to write applications. So I register quite a few accounts for my various websites and personal uses.
I've written a few bots (@WhoisBot and @StupidBot for example) and generally like to make accounts for my websites (@ProxyHost) but this caught me off guard.

So I've been playing a lot with twitter lately and my question becomes, how are people driving traffic and what influences it? There are a lot of people spending countless hours or designing automated systems to spam and advertise on twitter but what makes it work (or not work)?

What is @WhoisBot?
Simply, it's a whois service for twitter.

How do I use @WhoisBot?
To use @WhoisBot you need to be a follower (and it needs to follow you back... it will do this automatically every so often -- trying to get twitter to automatically do this). Then you simply direct message whois bot a domain name:
dm whoisbot domainname.com
whoisbot will respond in a couple minutes (also working on increasing quota of queries to make this faster) with the availability of the domain you sent.

So I spent my friday night programming a twitter bot (yea yea... im a geek). This has been my first real project that I have done all the coding on in a while and it felt good to get back into it. After playing around a lot I really saw the potential for the API and creating bots for twitter and have had a few other ideas (hopefully the next one will be released shortly!).
