An Open Letter to Ted Olson of SmartName/BuyDomains/Afternic/NameMedia

Average: 2.6 (15 votes)

Dear Ted,
I am glad you learned how to use email: it's hard and we all make mistakes.

Now quit your deceptive email marketing.

What are you talking about you say?

Lesson 1: I never opted into your email newsletter. Just because you put an opt-out doesn't make it OK to subscribe me. If everyone operated in this way we would all get even more spam. Do you know why all those email services that handle it professionally do double opt-in? Because people hate your spam.

Interesting Phenomena - Spammers Giving Legit Traffic

Average: 5 (3 votes)

I noticed something interesting today. I was checking the stats for one of my sites which had been hit by spammers and I hadn't had time to clean it up for about a month. What I saw was some of the spam comments actually got ranked on google and were driving real traffic to the spam posts.

So an interesting thought, if you could rank a legitimate site and get spammed a lot, could you turn spammers effort into revenue for yourself?
